A new routine

The past few days have been very busy. I'm starting to get into a routine now. I walk up, roll out of bed, make coffee and breakfast, and start checking email. Working from home can be consuming since my desk is in our dining room. It's easy to work all the time and into the night. I've realized how important it is to take breaks, go for a walk or run an errand during lunch. Also working from a friend's house or coffee shop is a nice change of scenery. Oh and the cats are really enjoying me being home during the day. They sit on my keyboard, cry or jump into my lap for attention (or food). Do you enjoy working from home? Any other freelancers care to share their day-to-day?

Here's several goodies from the past few days. Another snack coming this afternoon!
Parsley & Quinoa salad
Use leftover veggies for a quick breakfast or light lunch with an english muffin

Hi Adrienne!
I'm working freelance from home too, as an interior's desing writer, and you should tell us how to get organized and manage time because, I must confess, I'm still a mess. I plan to work all morning and I just keep procrastinating, can't get myself to do more than one thing...

I've tried to set a routine for me: get up, have breakfast while checking mails + social networks, but It seems I can't get much done after that. As it is always easy to leave what I'm doing and go out to buy something or run some errands or...anything, I can't optimize time and work.

Give us some tips!
Thank you, nice blog you have here!

Working from home for the past 2 1/2 years has been pure satisfaction. But, as much as I like to think I have a routine going, I think the only thing that remains the same is some morning yoga and always breakfast! Otherwise my schedule is never the same!

Hi Vic! I guess for me I need that routine to get me up and going. I like to exercise, eat breakfast and have coffee to get my mind going. I'm a morning person that for me, it's easiest to get up early and start working. Maybe you enjoy running errands in the morning and then working later in the evening? Yes sometimes it's hard to focus, but maybe make small goals like spend two hours on this project so you make progress and have the rest of the afternoon to work on another. Hope that helps!

Jacqui, I hear that. My mornings seem to be the most consistent part of my day or at least I try to make them. Morning yoga sounds awesome!

Thanks Rox! Yeah he really it is.

Zell, Josh brought some home from Brooklyn. But I think you can buy online!

The quinoa looks delicious, by the way. I do most of my work from home (since I'm now back in school) and it is REALLY hard to set a schedule. I'll start working in the a.m. and before I realize it, it's 6pm. I find that setting a timer works to remind me to get up and move. Or I schedule work dates with other friends! Good luck finding your stride!

That quinoa meal looks so tasty! I just had the last bit of the quinoa I had at home yesterday, will need to get more asap!

There are so many pros and cons to working at home. I try to look at the positives or else I'd go crazy, ha! Hopefully won't be like this forever, though. Or... maybe my home will just get better.

P.S. I just found your blog not too long ago and I'm already loving what I see!

So glad I found this post! Trying to work from home as well. What works for me: a notebook full of strict checklists, a stimulating moodboard, and planning meal times. Otherwise, I get lost all over the internet. Staying focused is tougher than I ever thought it would be.
